Larry Ortega-the obliq artist

Artist–Entrepreneur-Steward

Art and the creation of art come from a place of spirituality, a unique space, only they occupy. Artists tell a story about journey and discovery through the media they work within.

My cast resin pieces act like light lenses; diffusing light throughout the work, illuminating objects embedded in various layers. Phosphorescent powers are mixed with resins and cast into each layer. Light “charges”  the cast resin and creates its own light, best seen in the dark.

Maquettes are small models and studies to create larger pieces. The addition of a new studio, space allows me to work on larger pieces, including furniture.
My recent work is landscape/skyscape oriented and multimedia using Wood-Resin-Steel and Light.

Light has invisible qualities- I think of light as a healing agent. Light affects mood as well. My color palette is Blue, Aqua, Violet, Green, White, Orange, and Red. Phosphorescence is a specific type of photoluminescence related to fluorescence. Unlike fluorescence, a phosphorescent material does not immediately re-emit the radiation it absorbs. The slower time scales of the re-emission are associated with “forbidden” energy state transition in quantum mechanics. As these transitions occur very slowly in certain materials, absorbed radiation may be re-emitted at a lower intensity for up to several hours after the original excitation. God resides in the silence of light
