Artist-Curator-Entrepreneur-Steward
In my mind and worldview, I came to the conclusion that all art is an expression of our spirituality, the abstract may be its highest form. There needs to be an explanation by the artist to reveal the story. My recent work is landscape/skyscape oriented and multimedia using Wood-Resin-Steel and Light. Light plays an important role and has created the work to be shown where light might stream through the translucent layers of resin. Some of the pieces are now cast with phosphorescent powers mixed with resins. Light “charges” the cast resin with phosphorescent powders and throws off its own light for hours in the darkness of the night. Maquettes are small models and studies to create larger pieces. The winter time and the addition of my new studio, allowed me to work on larger pieces some that are functional as a bench or table and others are sculptures.
Light has invisible qualities- I think of light as a healing agent. Light affects mood as well. My color palette is Blue, Aqua, Violet, Green, White, Orange, and Red. Phosphorescence is a specific type of photoluminescence related to fluorescence. Unlike fluorescence, a phosphorescent material does not immediately re-emit the radiation it absorbs. The slower time scales of the re-emission are associated with “forbidden” energy state transition in quantum mechanics. As these transitions occur very slowly in certain materials, absorbed radiation may be re-emitted at a lower intensity for up to several hours after the original excitation.
I am signing my work “anObliqartist” a name I adopted from the relationship of our art gallery “Obliq Art” in downtown Phoenix. More of my work can be seen at http://www.stor-ybox.com
